THE FAMOUS LEAP CASTLE

This now famous Castle was built between the 14th and 15th century to guard the pass from Slieve Bloom to Munster and was a Strong hold of the Ocarrol clan. The Castle proved to be impenetrable on many occasions, the Gaelic name for the castle is "leim ui bhanain" ( the leap of the Obannons ). Due to its strategic situation the Castle has seen much warfare and skulduggery which is why Leap Castle is in our 3 must investigate venues on our tour of Ireland.
